Merle R. Auvil, age 87 of Crawfordville, FL passed away February 6, 2026 in Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Merle was born in Iaeger, WV on October 24, 1938 to the late Charles and Maggie (Johnson) Auvil. He moved to Brooksville with his family when he was 12 years old and graduated from Hernando High School. He served our country in the U.S. Navy and retired after 30 years of service from American Can Company. Merle attended the Assembly of God Church. He also loved fresh water fishing at the lakes all over Florida. He was an avid hog and deer hunter, raised and trained his own hunting dogs while enjoying hunting with family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Mattie Lou (Harrell) Auvil; 2 sons: Merle R. Auvil, Jr of Aripeka, FL and Lionel (Cheryl) Bliss of Crawfordville, FL; 1 daughter, Margie Berry of Inverness, FL; 2 sisters: Brenda Moran and Nina Ames, both of Brooksville; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Estil Auvil and Iris Aken.
There is a Celebration of Life scheduled on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Ballard officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 1:30 PM in Florida National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the time of service.

Uncle Merle was one of the good ones. I hope he’s already reunited with Mom (Iris) and Uncle Estil and Grandma and Grandpa. Prayers and Hugs and Strength for Merle Jr and Mattie and the rest of the family.
