Charles (Rick) F. Crane of Inverness, FL, died at Highland Place on January 21, 2026. He was 89 years of age. Rick was born in Detroit, MI, son of the late Charles L. and Rosedith (Burchby) Crane.
Rick graduated with his bachelor’s degree from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI. He loved northern Michigan and the lakes; in fact he was an avid sailor for many years. He also loved his Ford Mustangs; he drove one all the time until very recently.
Rick and his father owned and operated McBryde’s Boot Shops and at one time they were running 6 locations. He had been living in this area for over 25 years and was a longtime Friend of Bill W. In retirement, Rick was very active and involved. He was a volunteer for Horses for the Handicapped, Sea Turtle Watch (with Gumbo Limbo Nature Center), and Fort Cooper State Park. He attended Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Inverness.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Denise (Keith) Harting and Joyce (Brian) Butterfield; grandchildren, Aaron (Janelle), Mark, and Jeff (Deirdre Pethokoukis) Harting; David and Parker Butterfield; granddog, Blitzen and grandkitty, Jupiter.
Private arrangements are in the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rick’s name may be made to Friends of Fort Cooper at [email protected].
