Alfred “Alfie” O’Connor, 88, of Inverness Florida passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025 surrounded by family. Born August 24, 1937, in Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland, he was the son of Augustine Leo O’Connor and Catherine Mary (McGuinness) O’Connor. An Irishman at heart, Alfie immigrated to the United States in 1958 and settled in New York. In 1961, Alfie married his love, Sarah Connolly, at St. Athanasius Church in the Bronx. Alfie was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sarah, his siblings, Charles, Mary, Leo, James, Michael, Colm, Maeve, Liam and Patsy; and his daughter-in-law, Lynda. He is survived by siblings Kathleen, Thomas, and John; his three sons, Robert, Alfred (Maureen), and Charles; his three grandchildren, Drew, Alaina, and Bryn; and his great-grandson, Monty. He is also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Alfie loved football, boxing, and the thrill of horse racing – especially his cherished trips to Saratoga. In later years, Alfie and Sarah settled in Florida. While some family lived close by, Alfie’s world extended far beyond geography – he was always on the phone, reaching out to friends and family across countries and continents, a true master at staying connected. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him, and forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of Alfie’s life will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 in the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home chapel at 9:30 AM, with a time of reflection and visitation immediately following. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30, where full military honors will be rendered at 11:30 AM in the Florida National Cemetery, and he will be laid to rest with his beloved Sarah. Arrangements are under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.

For four years I had the opportunity to share good times with Alfie, always had a great sense of humor and was very special to me. I truly miss him.
Alfie was a great friend and cousin to my mother Mamie and then to me. He will be sorely missed.
I’m going to miss Alfie so much! We have been friends for 40 years. We spent so much time laughing and talking about Athlone and the people he knew in Athlone. Even 2 weeks ago we were laughing on the phone.
