Ronald H. Fithen, affectionately known as Ron, passed away under Hospice care in the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. He was 77. Ron was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio to David Walter and Lila Jean (Brown) Fithen.
He and his future bride, Fran, met when they were only 12 years old. Ron was drafted into the United States Army just ten days prior to his 18th birthday, and he proudly served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in June 1970. On October 20, 1972, he and Frances Kay Jasenec were married.
Ron was a steel worker for 33 years, and after retiring he and Fran decided to move closer to their son and his family in Florida. They moved to Citrus County about six years ago. Ron loved freshwater fishing, and he loved fishing in tournaments. He also adored being with his family, especially his son and his grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. Those left to cherish Ron’s memory are his devoted wife, Fran Fithen of Homosassa; his son, Ronald H. Fithen, Jr. (Stephanie) of Homosassa; and his three granddaughters and one grandson.
Ron will be laid to rest in Florida National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care.

The first time met Ron was shortly after we moved to SMW, I was in the driveway when he walked up to introduce himself. He asked where I was from and I told him a small town on the Ohio River. He told me he was from Steubenville and I was very surprised. I told him I was from Martins Ferry and he shocked me again saying his wife was from Martins Ferry. Such a small world! We were sad to hear of his passing, he was always ready to stand and talk, always friendly, and always smiling.
