Drosos “Russ” Markos Marcuri

Drosos “Russ” Markos Marcuri, age 89, Hernando, Florida passed away July 29, 2025 under the care of Vitas Hospice in Lecanto.

Drosos was born in Steubenville, OH on August 17, 1935 to the late Markos and Alexandra Marcuri and came to this area in 1991 from Baltimore, MD.  He was employed by the State of Maryland as a Data Processing Manager and served our country in the United States Army.  He was of the Greek Orthodox Faith and attended Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Lecanto.

Known to most by his adopted name “Russ” his many life stories were legendary and entertaining. He often told the story of how he and Pat met on a Greyhound bus in 1961. Though Pat was not Greek she was fully welcomed into the tribe when she bore their daughter Maria who became the apple of her Father’s eye. He dedicated his life to caring and providing for her until the day he died.

He had three childhood friends from his Greektown neighborhood in Baltimore who together called themselves “the Greek Sheiks” who have stayed close for over 80 years.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Maria Parks and her husband Franklin Groves of Hernando, FL.  He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Patricia on June 17, 2021.  They were married almost 60 years.  He also lost his  brother, Nicholas Marcuri.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 4:00 until 5:00 PM where memories and stories about Drosos will be shared.  Private burial will follow at the Fountains Memorial Park on Wednesday.
