Louis J Quad

Mr. Louis Jacob Quad (Lou) passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in Inverness, Florida. Lou was born in New York, NY on March 30, 1934, the oldest of four children to Millard Carl Quad and Rosina Stewart Quad. Lou grew up in Ridgewood, NJ where he graduated from Ridgewood High School. He attended Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh and served in the United States Air Force as a radar repairman where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. He worked at Federal Electric Company where he met the love of his life, Katherine (Tina) Hazapis Quad. They were married for 61 years, and their life together took them from New Jersey to Miami, Florida where Lou worked as a marine draftsman for Performance Marine, Bertram Yachts and Schottel of America before retiring to Inverness.

An accomplished artist and musician, Lou enjoyed playing a variety of instruments in a small German band for audiences throughout South Florida. His drawings were remarkable, and he was able to capture images of people and places with emotion and feeling. He had a passion for sailing and the sea, and painstakingly restored and built several sailboats with the same artistic skills and talent that he brought to his music and art. To Lou, however, the most important use of his talent was helping his children and grandchildren with school projects, which he did with great enthusiasm and love.

A voracious reader, Lou passed along his love for both the spoken and printed word to his children and grandchildren. He never missed the opportunity to gently correct a misspelled or misspoken word, and took great pride in his mastery of the language he loved.

Lou’s was a life well lived, and he was a man of grace and integrity. He considered his family his greatest love and achievement and he is survived by his wife Tina, his daughters Christina (Randy) and Kari (John) and his son Millard (Michelle); grandchildren Katie (Andrew) Keister, Sarah (Curry) Wilkinson, Matthew Keister, Rachel (Zane) Osborn, Jacob (Sara) Faircloth, Louis (Jyllian) Quad and Garrett Keister and his great-grandchildren Colton and Cade Osborn.

Lou Quad was a man of quiet dignity and decency, served his country with honor and loved his family unconditionally. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Susanne Quad Croel and brother-in-law Phil Croel, and sisters Wendy Quad and Carolyn Quad Asquith.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
