George L Gurnsey

George LeRoy Gurnsey of Inverness, FL passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 1, 2023 at the age of 79. He was born on June 3, 1944, the son of the late George and Anna (Mahosky) Gurnsey and stepfather, Ralph Verdolini.

George enlisted in the Army straight from high school and was stationed in Key West, FL. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Rae. George worked at various companies as a skilled carpenter. Over the years, he was a member of the Troy Rod & Gun Club, member and Past Master of Trojan Masonic Lodge 306 in Troy, Pennsylvania and a 32nd degree Mason in the Valleys of Towanda and Williamsport Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rites, and past President of the Sundowners Club. George was an avid hunter, fisherman, loved to snowmobile, and play cards. He loved spending time with his family and his friends especially his classmates of the Class of 1962. George retired from The Wood Store in 2006.

George and Sharon relocated to Inverness, FL in 2012. He volunteered for the Citrus County Crime Watch, enjoyed countless dinners, and card games with “the gang”.

George was a loving husband, Daddy, grandfather & great grandfather (known as Boppa), brother, uncle, and friend. His jokes and funny remarks will be missed by many.

George is survived by daughters: DeAnna Lynne Carpenter of Trout Run, PA and Michelle Lanne (Sean) Kallaugher of Berlin, CT and his granddaughters: Meagan Rae (Shannon) Bump, Samantha Leah Carpenter, Sydney Rae Kallaugher and great grandson: Brycen William Bump; sisters: Dorothy (Wayne) Biby of Roseland, VA and Connie (Ken) Rusin of Inverness, FL, several nieces & nephews, and special friends.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by Sharon Rae Gurnsey, his wife of 51 blessed years.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at a memorial in PA to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to the Trojan Masonic Lodge 306 of Troy, PA in his memory. Cremation entrust to Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory, Inverness, FL
