Elena Flora Dizon Riechman of Inverness, age 97, died peacefully at her home on September 24, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents Braulio and Victoria Patiu Dizon, and her four siblings Jose Dizon,Gelasia Carbungco, Teofila David and Sor Tomasina, OP (Lourdes Dizon). In 1961 she left her hometown of Angeles City in Pampanga, Philippines to pursue an education in nursing. In 1964 she graduated from
the Albert Einstein Medical Center School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA . In 1971 she received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Temple University and in 1975 she received her Master in Education from Temple University. She was a registered nurse in Philadelphia and Massachusetts, and helped deliver many babies through the years.
Aside from being a second mother to many., Elena was also a generous benefactor. She believed in the true value of an education. Elena’s hobbies included arts and crafts, gardening, cooking, baking, sewing and embroidery.
Elena is survived by many family members from California, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Texas,Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia including Larry and Tina Purpura and Family, Mely Dizon and Family, next of kin: Sylvia Carbungco Nulud, Danilo Dizon, Emilia David Lawson, Adoracion David Lewis, Jesusa David Pastrana and Enrique David, friends and caregivers, Cheryl Cassidy and Joy McCurdy.
Elena lived a full life. Elena retired to Citrus Hill in 1999 after living in Philadelphia for 38 years. On September 15, 2022, her husband Roy Riechman of 48 years, preceded her in death. Elena’s parting words were ” Roy is a good man. He loved me very much”.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 550 US HWY 41, Inverness, FL 34450. Arrangements are under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, 3075 S Florida Avenue, Inverness, FL 34450
