Dorothy L. Swasey, age 87, Inverness, FL passed away August 27, 2023 at HPH Hospice in Lecanto surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born in Sewanee, TN on January 19, 1936 to the late Frances (Frank) and Marjorie (McDuffy) Johnson, and moved to Florida in 1968 from New York State. She and her late husband, James, moved to Inverness from Pinellas County 24 years ago. She was employed by Pinellas County School Board for 30 years, starting at High Point Elementary as an office clerk and retiring as an Executive Secretary to the Assistant Superintendent at the Pinellas County School Board Administration building.
Dorothy enjoyed sewing, traveling and absolutely LOVED her Tampa Bay Ray’s baseball team.
Left to cherish her memory are two children: James Frederick Swasey, Inverness and Cynthia Anne Johnson, Inverness and 1 brother, George Randolph Johnson of Tennessee; 5 grandchildren, Steven and his wife Leslie, Jordan and his wife Kaitlynn, James, Delaney and her husband Ian and Sommer. 3 great-grandchildren Konner Cole, Charles Michael and Eloise Rose.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Swasey on August 8, 2022. She also was preceded in death by her 4 brothers: Mack Smith, William “Smitty” Smith, James Johnson, and Frances (Frank) Johnson; and 3 sisters: Rudene Middleton, Marjorie Rushing, and Sarah Fowler.
