Evelyn A. (Brennan) Kramer, daughter of John A. Brennan and Ivy E. (Martin) Brennan, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2023, at VITAS Hospice House in Lecanto, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn M. (Kramer) Altinbasak of Inverness, FL, her brother Roger Brennan of Staten Island, N.Y., her sister Catherine (Brennan) Viterelli of Tehachapi, California, 8 grandchildren (Brennan Kramer, Andrew Kramer, Caroline (Kramer) Scott, Stephen Rego, Erol Altinbasak, Andrea Rego, Sarah Altinbasak & Erin Altinbasak), 3 great grandchildren (Christian, Evia and Isla), 4 sisters-in-law (Gloria Brennan, Margie Brennan, Bernadette Brennan and Marjorie Smith) and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn is pre-deceased by her husband Julius H. Kramer, her son Kenneth J. Kramer, her daughter Susan E. (Kramer) (Rego) Smith, and brothers John Brennan, Vincent Brennan, and Dennis Brennan.

Evelyn was very proud of her Irish/English roots, sharing the story of how her parents met and how angry both families were when they decided to marry. She was a very devout Catholic until the end, faithfully watched EWTN every Sunday when she became too frail to attend Mass, and prayed the rosary before bed every night. She was a true inspiration to her children and others who knew her.

Evelyn was quite beautiful, too. She was runner up in a New York City Beauty contest when she was sixteen years old. She was offered an acting contract but turned it down. She thought it was a silly idea. She studied secretarial skills in high school instead.

Evelyn worked in her early years. She was a cashier at Woolworth’s Bargain Store, then she was part of a secretarial pool for a law firm in Manhattan and then a secretary at Philco. In those days, married women were discouraged from working, but Evelyn stayed at Philco until she had her first child.

Evelyn met Julius through mutual friends. She was dating a young man who left to join the military. That is when fate stepped in. Julius and Evelyn started dating and eventually married on June 5, 1949. She very much wanted a family and was quite content to be a mother and grandmother. Evelyn enjoyed watching mysteries and reading novels. Her favorite book was Wuthering Heights.

Evelyn was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed. Her memory will live on in her daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous family members.

Evelyn’s life will be remembered at a Celebration of Life Service scheduled for Tuesday, August 29th at 1:00 PM from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Fr. Mike Suszynski, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church officiating. Cremation arrangements will follow. There will be a viewing from 12 Noon until services begin.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
