Crystal River – Our Lord gained another Angel when Curtis (Curt) Alan Rich II, 62 years old of Crystal River, FL died, Wednesday, July 26th, 2023, at Citrus Memorial Hospital under Hospice care after fighting a brief illness.
Curtis is survived by his life-time partner of over 18 years Kimberly Porter, their daughter Taylor Rich and bonus children Ryan Veal, Robbin (Lee) Johnson, Nathan Porter and grandsons Clyde and Sawyer Johnson; his sister Alana Rich (Crowder) of Decatur, IL, niece Rebecca DeMarco, grandnieces Addison and Cora DeMarco, grandnephew Cannon DeMarco of Ft. Worth, TX. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Deborah Rich Wheeler of Tallahassee, FL, and his nephew John Crowder of Crystal River, FL.
Curtis was born in South Miami, FL on December 15th, 1960, to Curtis A. Rich, Sr. and Iceal (Tyler) Rich. He moved with his family to Floral City, FL in 1972. Curtis was active in the sports of Baseball, Football, and Track, graduating from Citrus High in 1979 with a scholarship in track at Troy University, Troy, AL specializing in High Hurdles and 440 Relay. After leaving college, Curtis began managing a division of his father’s business, Curtis Tool Co., and in the 90’s transitioned to create Curtco, Inc., expanding the operations throughout Florida, South Carolina, and outside of the US, manufacturing drill bits and rebuilding drill rigs. Curtis was a lifelong sports fan, especially the Miami Dolphins. As a boy living in Miami, he was able to attend many of the games and meet players from the ’72 team at local events and call-in radio shows. His sports favorites were basketball, football, and tennis. Curtis loved rock’n roll music of the ’70s & ’80s, treating family and friends to many top artists’ concerts such as KISS, Aerosmith, Bob Segar, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, and others.
A service of remembrance will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 5th at the Crystal River Church of God located at 2180 NW 12th Avenue Crystal River, FL 34428. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to Moffitt Cancer Center https://www.moffitt.org/give/
