John “Jack” Murphy

John “Jack” Murphy age 83, of Hernando, Florida passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, under the care of Vitas Hospice. Jack was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 3, 1940, to the late Michael F. Murphy and Margaret (McAuliffe) Murphy. He moved to Florida in 1989 and Citrus County in 1990.
Jack served our country in the United States Air Force. Following his service to our country he worked 26 years for Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) as an airframe powerplant mechanic.
Known as a proficient and award-winning wood carver, Jack’s lifelong love of carving began when he would make duck decoys for his other passion, bird hunting. As a lifelong outdoor enthusiast, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He was a member of the South Shore Waterfowlers Association and a former Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America. In his later years, it was his passion for woodcarving that brought him immense joy. Jack was a proud member of the Nature Coast Wood Carving Club and served as President.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Jack is survived by his former spouse, Karen Murphy, and their 2 children together whom they adored; his daughter Jill Anne Frampton and son-in-law William and their son and grandchild Joseph of Inverness; his son John Murphy and daughter-in-law Trina, and their two children, his grandchildren Parker and Kaitlin of Inverness; his sister Maureen Way of Shingle Springs, California; 7 nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, April 11th, 2023, at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm and services begin at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
