Wayne L Grezeszak

Wayne Lawrence (Chum) Grezeszak passed away peacefully on the evening of March 2, 2023, at VITAS Hospice Home in Lecanto, Florida. He was 83 years old. Chum was born June 17, 1939 in Selkirk, Michigan to Lawrence and Wilma (illig) Grezeszak.
Chum graduated from West Branch High School in 1957 and took a job with the railroad as a telegrapher. He met and later married V. Diane (Howell) on August 26, 1961, and they shared more than 61 wonderful years together. Chum and Diane have three children: Larry (Carla) Grezeszak of Whittemore, Rhonda (Andre) Charbonneau, and Cheryl Chizzini who both reside in Pompano Beach, Florida. They also have four grandchildren: Erin (Joshua) Blakely, Brayden Charbonneau, Cody (Brianna) White, and Savanna (Cody) St. Germain and one great-grandson Garrett Blakely.
Chum and Diane owned and operated Hi Skore Lanes in West Branch from 1968 until their retirement in 2004. Chum was a member of the Knights of Columbus in West Branch, a lifetime member of the Moose, and was inducted into the Ogemaw County Bowling Hall of Fame. He loved baseball and softball, playing softball in senior leagues in Florida for many years during his retirement.
Chum was best known in town for his endless and often embellished gift of gab, as well as his vivacious laugh. He was always up for a game of checkers when working behind the bar and spent his many evenings “supervising” the bowling alley from his stool behind the counter. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and provided continuous commentary on every aspect of their team. After moving to Florida, he made room in his playbook for the Tampa Rays as well.
Chum is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren as well as his siblings Lorraine Legarski, Leonard (Doris) Grezeszak, and Judy Walter, sisters-in-law Delores and Mary Grezeszak, his mother-in-law Velma Howell, sister-in-law Darlene (Thom) Jones, brother-in-law Jack Clayton, and brother in-law Gary (Eileen) Howell. He is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews who love to share their memories of Uncle Chum.
Predeceasing Chum are his parents, sister Ceclia Chapman, brothers Barney, Earl, and Virgil Grezeszak, father-in-law Archie Howell, sister-in-law Patricia Clayton, brother-in-law Dave Chapman, brother-in-law Dave Walter, grandson Tyler White, and great-grandson Gunnar Blakely.
A private family service will be held later this summer in Michigan. Cremation arrangements with Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory, Inverness, FL.
