James “Jim” Lawson St. Clair, 76, died peacefully on January 15, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He was predeceased by parents Dewey “Red” and Madeline St. Clair, and brother-in-law William Bills, all of Tampa.
Jim is survived by several family members in Inverness: daughter Jamie (Tyler, Ashten, and Madison); son James “Jimbo” (Jackson); brother Rick and wife, Mary, with Katie (Greg, with Madeline, Hannah, and Charlotte), Megan (Colin, with Camryn and Chloe), and Bradley (Whitney, with Wesley and Waylon). He is also survived by sister Vickie St. Clair Bills, and her two sons, Kevin Esposito (Emily, with Evan and Evie) of Louisville, KY, and Jeremy Scott Bills of Tampa.
Jim was athletic, excelling at baseball, he was rewarded for his baseball skills with a scholarship to Wingate College. As an adult, Jim was an avid bowler, golfer, and an active member of Inverness Little League.
After graduating, he was drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Two Overseas Service Bars. Upon his return, he worked at UPS before moving to Inverness as the manager of a small oil distributorship (Union 76 franchise). He also married Sue Travis and later had Jamie and James. Jim and Sue both supported their school activities, especially swimming, where he founded the St.Clair Swim Award for CHS high school swimmers.
At Jim’s request, there are not services scheduled. Cremation is under the direction of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
