Fred R. Corban, Sr. of Citrus Springs, Florida, passed away November 5, 2022, at the age of 96. Fred was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Frederick and Isabelle. Fred worked in La Grange, Illinois for General Motors until his retirement. Fred moved from Chicago to Hernando and later to Citrus Springs, Florida. He was a proud Marine who fought in the battle of Iwo Jima. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his injuries in this conflict. During his retirement, Fred spent time with his wife cruising the seas and visiting varied ports of call. Fred attended the First Baptist Church of Lecanto, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Richards), sons: Fred Jr. (Debbie), Greg (Katy), step-sons: Richard Doan, (deceased, Laura), Randall Doan, step-daughter, Robin Chamberlain (deceased). Granddaughter, Katelyn and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
He was greatly loved by family, friends and all who knew him. He was known for his collections of over 5 thousand ties, and often was referred to as “The Tie Man”.
Family and friends are invited to his funeral service 1pm Friday at The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home 3075 S. Florida Ave Inverness. Pastor Gary Bailey of First Baptist Church of Lecanto will officiate. Viewing will be from 11am until time of service.
Following cremation, Fred will be interred in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donation to the AT Children’s Project. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory in Inverness.
