Barbara Ann Fallon, 71, beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 25, 2022, peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Staten Island, New York, on September 7, 1951, to Joseph and Marie Silvestro.
Barbara graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1969, Brooklyn College, and Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in 1972. She was a New York State Nurses Association member and registered nurse at Kings County Hospital and the Visiting Nurse Association of Staten Island. Barbara’s innate and high degree of compassion and natural ability to make a positive impact on others confirmed Barbara’s calling and passion were nursing and caring for others.
Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Fallon, on September 8, 1972, in New York. In 1974, they moved to Inverness, Florida to raise their family and take over their family-owned business, Joe’s Deli. They had four daughters from 1975 to 1980: Amy, Amanda, Rebecca, and Katie. During Barbara’s last pregnancy, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and began her long battle to overcome the disease. Barbara did all she could to give back to the community that graciously supported her in her time of need. She regularly stated, “it takes a village,” as she was truly honored to call the people of Citrus County her “village.” Throughout it all, she was a true warrior and a beacon of strength to all fortunate to know her.
Barbara and her husband were pillars of the community. She was president of the Inverness Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority, Pi Zeta, where she enmeshed herself with community projects and fundraisers. Barbara continued to utilize her nursing skills as a Lamaze childbirth instructor and enjoyed working with expecting parents. Barbara was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church and Our Lady of Fatima. Parishioners were often graced by her beautiful singing voice when she served as the cantor during Sunday morning mass. When Barbara was not helping her community, she chauffeured the “mom taxi” to dance classes, girl scouts, cheerleading, music lessons, youth groups, and horseback riding lessons. She helped her husband, Joe, build their catering business, and assisted her father, Joe Silvestro, at the Whispering Pines Park concession. In 1998, Barbara shared her impeccable fashion sense and taste with the world by opening a woman’s boutique, Etc…of Park Avenue, in Inverness, Florida.
Barbara was the ultimate hostess. She often held gatherings and events in her home that exuded sophistication, style, and fun. She specialized in creating memories that resulted in traditions. She truly enjoyed bringing people together and connecting with friends who all became family.
Barbara was known for her big, blue eyes that always saw the good in others, her caring shoulder that many cried on, her huge heart that loved and accepted all people, her amazing sense of humor coupled with an infectious laugh, and her strong spirit that emanated compassion and kindness. With open arms, she created a home that was a safe haven for many. Barbara’s motto, “my door is always open,” ensured all who entered felt welcomed and comfortable to stay for as long as needed. Every Christmas, additional stockings were added to the wall until no room was left showcasing all impacted by her love and sincerity.
In 1999, Barbara became a grandparent, the role that brought her the most pride and joy. Like everything else she accomplished, she filled the role with perfection as she epitomized the ideal Italian grandmother. As “nana,” she eagerly spoiled her grandchildren with gigantic ice cream sundaes, pool parties, and showered them with the “best” gift for Christmas and birthdays.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father Joseph Silvestro, mother Marie Capeci Silvestro, and sister Rita Silvestro Juliano. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Joseph Fallon of Inverness, FL; daughters Amy (Robert) Crowell of Inverness, FL, Amanda (Steve) Marconi of Orlando, FL, Rebecca (Emsa) Caskey of Ashville, NC, Katie (Jeremy) Hensley of Inverness, FL; sister Rosemary (Jon) DeMott of Clermont, FL; nephews Joseph Silvestro of Ocala, FL, Jonathan (Savannah) DeMott of Tallahassee, FL, Jason DeMott of Austin, TX; grandchildren Fallon, Jacob, Landon, Dominic, and Haylee.
