Anthony M Di Gennaro

On the evening of Saturday, September 17, 2022 Anthony Michael Di Gennaro, loving husband, father of two and grandfather of two passed away.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York on March 27, 1936, young Anthony started working at the age of nine to support his younger sister and mother due to the tragic loss of his father. With this immense and unexpected sense of responsibility, he contributed to his family’s budget by working every day after school and every weekend to make ends meet. He earned his high school diploma and immediately attended trade and vocational schools to further his education. Unsatisfied and with a new sense of duty, he then joined the Army and traveled overseas to France. Upon his return to the United States he joined the union trucking industry and after, worked at JFK Airport as chief dispatcher.

In 1980 he moved to Florida with his mother and worked at the nuclear plant in Crystal River. In 1982 he married his wife of 39 years Raffaella DeRisi whom he met overseas while serving in the Army. Anthony, Lella and their daughter Caroline eventually moved to Italy and soon after arrived their son, Tony.

In Italy, Anthony worked as an unarmed guard and eventually became a DOD customs and quality control inspector in Agnano and Gricignano Italy for military families overseas until his retirement in 2002.
Anthony and his wife Lella periodically moved between New York, Italy and Florida to enjoy the sunshine in the colder months of the year.

Anthony was an honest, hardworking, strong-willed, and softhearted man who took time to enjoy the little and simple things in life. His family was always of the utmost importance to him. He enjoyed cooking meals for his loved ones and had a strong love for animals. He lived to make his family happy. He is loved and will be missed and remembered by those who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Funeral Rite on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. Fr Claudius Mganga, Parochial Vicar from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will officiate. Following this service, the V.F.W. Honor Guard will render full military honors to honor Anthony for his service to our country. There will be additional military honors rendered for him in October at the Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA. The Fort Belvoir Honor Guard will perform that service.
