JoAnn Henderson

JoAnn Henderson, 91 years, of Inverness, passed away September 6, 2022, under the care of Vitas Hospice and her longtime friend Donna L. Munro. JoAnn was born in Decatur, IL to the late Orval Henderson and Ruth Alexander. Jodie, as many friends and acquaintances called her, was a resident of Forrest Park IL, before moving to Citrus County over 30 years ago. During Jodie’s younger years, she played Softball during the WWII “League of Their Own” period of time. She was so proud to be a part of that and to bring entertainment to others. Jodie holds a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters of Arts in Elementary Education. She taught just about every subject in the first through eighth grades. She had served as Principal, Assistant Principal, and Business Administrator within school districts in IL. Jodie’s passion was in the classroom, although she was on the administrative side for several years, she longed to get back in front of the children and did so. Jodie was involved with amateur Ham Radios and helped with communications during disasters. She was Past President Citrus County AM Radio Club. Jodie was a member of The Sky High AM Radio Club, Hernando County Teachers Assoc., Hernando Academy of Teachers, Inverness South and West Civic Assoc., Volunteer for Citrus County Surveillance Patrol and also served on the Advisor Board for Camp E-Ninnihassee, and was a Treasurer at First Lutheran Church of Inverness. Jodie retired from the State of IL after 38 years and moved to the State of Florida and went back to the classroom for another 5 years. She was always proud to say, “I was an educator for 43 years”.

Jodie was predeceased by her parents Orval and Ruth Henderson, her sister Eileen, and brother-in-law Norman.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister Alice Eileen Brumett; Tom Reich, whom she thought of as a son; longtime friend Donna L. Munro; and Jim Morton of Century 21. She is also survived by nieces and a nephew, and a host of friends, back in IL and here in FL.

There will be a Celebration of Life 11am Saturday, October 8 at First Lutheran Church of Inverness with Pastor Tom Beaverson leading the charge, 1900 FL Route 44 Inverness FL 34452. Visitation from 10:30 at the church. Interment will follow after services. Arrangements are under the direction of Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness
