William R. Fitzhugh, 90 years, of Inverness, suddenly, passed away August 30, 2022 with family by his side, in Arbor Trail. He was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Harry T. Fitzhugh and Margaret Whitman. In 1952 William and Elaine D. Henneman were married. They resided in the Baltimore Maryland area for 60 years before moving to Florida. They first resided in Sun City Center for 30 years and has been a resident of Inverness for the past 3 months.
William served his country proudly as a US Marine, serving during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 1 Star and the United Nations Medal. He was employed by C&P Telephone Company of Maryland. He began his employment with the phone company as a cable splicer and rose through the ranks to become an Account Executive. He retired in 1984 after many years. Shortly after retirement, he started working for US West Telephone Company and retired in 1986.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Maryland. William was an avid golfer and enjoyed several programs on Television. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Margaret Fitzhugh, and his siblings; Harry T. Jr., James M., Thomas M. and Lois.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Elaine D. Fitzhugh, 1 son William R. Fitzhugh, Jr., 1 daughter Valerie Zeeler, grandfather of Christin, Britney, Kirby, and Stephanie, 10 great grandchildren, also survived by nieces and nephews.
