Robert J. Ballou, 74, of Floral City, FL passed away August 30, 2022 at his residence in Floral City. He was born in Phoenix, AZ on August 6, 1948 to the late William James and Kathryn (Springer) Ballou. Robert served as Fire Chief in the city of St. Petersburg for 35 years. He also worked for the St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) for 25 years in the distribution department. He arrived in this area in the 1950’s coming from Greenville, TN. He was Catholic by faith, and enjoyed playing golf and watching sports. Robert served our country honorably in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Dr. Virginia Schekorra-Ballou. Other survivors include his children Rob Ballou of Wildwood, FL, Brian Scott Ballou (Kim) of Seminole, FL, Don Ballou (Suzie) of St. Petersburg, FL, Jeff Ballou (Heather) of Brooksville, FL; step children Sean Schekorra (Jen) of Deltona, FL, Ryan Schekorra (Tiffany) of Inverness, FL, and Brigette Inthalangsy (Oulay) of Alachua, FL; and many grandchildren. A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Friday, September 16, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL. The service will be officiated by Fr. Claudius Mganga of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church. After the service, in recognition of Robert’s military service, VFW Post #4337 will be rendering military honors at the funeral home. Robert’s urn will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date.
