James P. Conkel

James “Jim” Patrick Conkel, 78, of Dunnellon, FL passed away February 4, 2022. He was born March 26,1943 in Circleville, OH to the late Lewis F. and Eleanor E. Conkel.

Jim joined the US Marine Corps immediately upon graduating high school, serving until 1967 and receiving an honorable discharge. Jim joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1965 and though he never served an official mission, loved to share his testimony of the gospel while serving and helping others. In 1986 he moved to Dunnellon where he opened his own business, Jim Conkel Wood Floral Products, that provided goods and services to florists across the east coast of the US. He began
serving in the Boy Scouts when his youngest sons became of age. Even after his sons grew up he continued to serve, he loved being able to help teach and mentor the young men in his troop. Jim loved his family and made sure to be at every one of his kid’s football & soccer games, band performances and fundraising events.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Mary Ann Conkel; his sister Linda Wade and her husband Ralph; his children Sean Conkel and his wife Cindy, Tahrl Gray and her husband Richard, Alicia Haxton and her partner Jenn, Joseph Conkel, Rebecca Love and her husband Brandon, and Jacob Conkel as well as 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and many other extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints’ chapel at 3474 W Southern St, Lecanto FL, 34461. Family and friends are welcome to a visitation at 10am with Memorial Services beginning at 11am, followed by a reception. Private cremation arrangements are under the care of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
