Allister Raymond Ballantine, 90, of Inverness Florida, passed away on January 28th, 2022 under the care of Citrus Memorial Hospital.
Allister married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Norine Dillard, on February 10th, 1951 in St. Petersburg, FL and they began their life together as Al served in the United States Coast Guard and subsequently the U.S. National Guard.
The next adventure for Al and Alice began as Allister attended the University of Florida and completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later in life, while raising his family, Al also accomplished his master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
Al’s education prepared him for the role of teacher at Coosa Valley Technical Vocational School and then as Administrator for many years while living in Silver Creek, Georgia. Alice was able to join Allister at Coosa Valley Tech as she taught the GED program. It was the perfect scenario for these two educators.
Allister utilized his Mechanical Engineering training as his career took him to multiple parts of the country with JCPenney Catalog Distribution, ultimately earning the title and role of Engineering Manager in Manchester, Connecticut, next in Reno, Nevada, and finally Dallas, Texas.
While raising their three children, Allister enjoyed bringing the family on outings to fish, canoe and camp. This influenced Allister and Alice to purchase their beloved acreage and build a cabin in the Blue Ridge mountains of Georgia. The entire family spent many weekends and vacations creating wonderful family memories.
In addition to the outdoors, Allister was an avid tennis player, golfer, and thoroughly enjoyed bike riding especially upon his retirement with Alice to Floral City, Florida in 1991.
Along with his parents, Allister is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Alice D. Ballantine, and by his son, Douglas R. (Jennifer) Ballantine. Those left to cherish his memory are his one remaining sister-in-law, Sharron Dillard Thornton, Mark S. (Holly) Ballantine of Hiram, GA, Norine B. (George) Farrell of Tolland, Connecticut and his four cherished grandchildren Matthew Ballantine, Andrew Ballantine, Lorin Grimaldi and Leah Peterson, as well as many loved great-grandchildren.
A friends and family gathering will be planned with date to be determined; Information will be provided in the near future for this memorial event. Cremations with Care Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
