Betty A Holcombe

Betty A. Holcombe, 94, of Crystal River, FL passed away January 23, 2022. She was born in Norwich, CT. Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother. Loved by all for her wonderful laughter, unfailing commitment to her children Cheryl, Nancy, Patsy, and Michael. Her spirit was inimitable, her loyalty unmatched, her love boundless and her life a gift to all of us who’s lives she touched. The ripples of her life will last for eternity.
Betty proudly displayed her three girls (sometimes called Irish Triplets) in a stroller on Indian Rocks Beach while in their starched ironed clothes and their little red wagon. Four years later Michael was born and from what I hear you could not wipe the smile from her face.
Betty Meares (James Meares) was one of the pioneer families of Anona and Indian Rocks Beach. In the 1940’s and 1950’s everybody knew everybody on Indian Rocks Beach. Betty was well known for her devotion to her family and her community. She played on a ladies softball team called the Signal House. In her 70’s she wrote a book of her life called “The life and times of me, Mom”. She loved crocheting (called herself the “happy hooker”), latch hook, playing the organ, crosswords, baseball and forever, her children. She worked in and around Indian Rocks Beach as a hostess, waitress, private school bus driver, candy maker, at home jewelry maker, and substitute teacher at Anona School.
Surely goodness and Mercy followed her all the days of her life and she dwells in the house of the Lord forever. She is preceded in death by her husband Hank Holcombe, her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Michael Scott of Mike Scott Plumbing, her two brothers Joe and Jimmy Moore and her sister Helen McLaney. She is survived by her two daughters Cheryl Dykstra and Nancy Kelly, her son Michael Meares of Meares Plunbing and one brother Tommy Moore. Many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. Services will be held at Anona United Methodist Church (Chapel) on February 5th at 11:00 A.M. 13233 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, FL. 33774. Private cremation arrangements by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
