Serrill Eugene Host, 93, of Citrus Springs, FL passed away on January 12, 2022 in Beverly Hills, FL. He passed peacefully with family by his side. He was born on July 6, 1928 in Sergeant, PA. He was the eldest of six children born to the late Francis Serrill (and Helen) Host of Bear Lake, PA.
Serrill was a WWII Veteran. He served aboard the USS Robert H. McCard DD-822 with the United States Navy. This past veterans day he was honored by his church with a flag flown over the Pensacola Naval Station in his honor. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Fluvanna Fire Department, Fluvanna NY. Serrill was a member of North Oak Baptist Church, Citrus Springs Fl. He enjoyed fishing, remodeling homes, and spending time with his family.
Serrill retired from the former Blackstone Corporation in Jamestown, NY in 1986 as an engineer for 38 years. Serrill played an instrumental part in design and build of the Fluvanna Community Church, in Fluvanna, NY where he was an active member while living there. Serrill spent retirement years with his wife in Venice, FL, Elkton, MD, Sumter, SC, and Citrus Springs, FL.
Serrill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Donna Mae Host, on December 10, 2021. He was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Orpha Sandeen, Marion Mack, Bonita Drayer, Delores Anderson, and his son in law, Hugh McCombs.
He is survived by his sons, Gene T. Host (Betty) of Corry, PA, Jason L. Host (Leigh Ann) of Beverly Hills, FL, Scott E. Host (Lisa) of Sumter, SC, Mark Peterson of Busti, NY, and daughter Lynette McCombs of Orange Park, FL, also survived by his sister Alice Dalrymple of Bear Lake, PA. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service has been scheduled for Saturday, January 29, 2022 at North Oak Baptist Church, 9324 N. Elkcam Blvd, Citrus Springs, FL 34433. Family and friends are invited for visitation at 10 am with the service to follow at 11 am.
He will rest next to his wife at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL
Memorial Contributions may be made to North Oak Baptist Church and Gideons International. The Chas Davis Funeral home is assisting the family.
