Shirley M. Hurlstone

Shirley M. Hurlstone, 93, of Floral City, FL passed away on January 2nd, 2022 under the care of VITAS hospice of Lecanto, FL. She was born in Detroit, MI on September 3rd, 1928 to the late Walter C. and Myrtle (Schlee) Schuknecht.

She was an art teacher at her children’s grade school, bought accessories for Dobbs Furniture and lastly was a computer operator for a liquid asphalt company. In 1997 she made Citrus County her home when she moved from Honor, Michigan.

Shirley enjoyed oil painting, gardening, and reading. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses Shirley greatly enjoyed helping people learn from the Bible that God has a beautiful future planned for mankind. She also loved to swim, boat, and even up into her 90’s, enjoyed taking a dip into the Homosassa River.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 10 years, Clinton T. Hurlstone when he passed in 2013; her daughter, Stephanie Brancheau; and her brother, Earl Schuknecht. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shirley Warnke (Douglas) of Pine Ridge, FL, Susan Penn of Michigan, and Sheryl “Lynn” Basile (Joseph) of Floral City, FL; her eight adored grandchildren; her six cherished great-grandchildren; and her very loved puppy, Deogee, also known fondly simply as “Puppy”.
Arrangements for Shirley are private at this time. Cremation with Care is under the direction of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
