James Burl Harris Sr. of Hernando, FL passed away at his daughters’ home while surrounded by his loving family on November 21, 2021, at the age of 95. He was born to the late Russell and Emma (Pelfrey) Harris on April 3, 1926, in Frenchburg, KY. James proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army and was a Veteran of World War II. Following his military service, he went to work for the Refrigeration Division of General Motors as a Production Foreman. He was married to his wife Lavana Harris for 58 years until her passing on March 15, 2004. Following his retirement from General Motors, he and Lavana made Citrus County their home in 1986.
Those left to mourn James’ passing include his son, James B. Harris Jr., and his wife Sheila; daughters: Emma Marie “Cricket” Scott and her husband Mack, Janet Elaine Edwards, Tonda Kaye “TK” Payne, and her husband David; grandchildren: Sherry Ann (Harris) Wiseman, Peggy Elaine (Harris) Hickey, Daniel Clay Moore, Kimberly Kaye Moore, Aaron David Payne, Ashley Danielle Payne, Dustin Jordan Payne, Trevor Kyle Payne, and many great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Lavana, James was preceded in death by sons: Gary Lee Harris, Robert Wayne Harris, and grandsons: Michael David Barrett and Mark Kevin Barrett. Sadly, just two days after James Sr. passing, the family announces the passing of James’ grandson, James Benjamin Harris.
The family has asked that funeral services and burial information be kept private. Arrangements are under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
