Anthony R. Rizzo of Inverness, FL passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital on September 17, 2021 at the age of 74. He was born to the late Ruth (Smith) and Anthony Rizzo, Sr. on September 20, 1946 in Chicago, IL. Anthony was a 1964 graduate of Andrean High School in Gary, IN. He proudly served his country as a member of the 173rd Airborne Division of the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Viet Nam War. In 1970, following his military service, he began a career in law enforcement working at Lake County Sherriff’s Office in Lake County, IN and most recently was a Deputy for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department. Anthony dedicated much of his life to serving his community and his fellow veterans. He is the former Vice President-Director of the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council and Deputy Representative for the Bay Pines Veterans Administration. He also served as Council Representative for the Veterans Congressional Advisory Council with Gus Bilirakis and was a Committeeman for the Pinellas County Republican Executive Committee.
Anthony was a member of a great many organizations including Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #43, Society of the 173rd Airborne, Viet Nam Family Association, American Legion #273, VFW Sunshine Post, Tampa All Airborne Association, Pinellas County Republican Executive Committee, St. Petersburg Republican Club and St. Petersburg Elks Lodge #1224. Prior to moving to Citrus County 1½ years ago, Anthony resided in St. Petersburg and was a parishioner of St. Jude’s Cathedral Catholic Church and a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #14178.
Those left to mourn Anthony’s passing include his significant other, Kim Rizzo; sons: Anthony Rizzo, Jr. and Allan Hernandez; daughter, Nicey Rizzo; sisters: Marie Floros, Patty Mendyke; several grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness and will be officiated by Father Claudius Mganga of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Following the chapel service, full military honors will be rendered by Inverness VFW Post #4337 Honor Guard. Anthony will be laid to rest privately at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date. Arrangements under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
