Raymond E. Cook, Jr., age 78 of Inverness, Florida died September 15, 2021 at Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was born, September 27, 1942 in Medina, New York, son of Raymond and Pearl (Quintern) Cook. Ray was a Marine Corp veteran serving from January 28, 1960 thru January 27, 1964 and was honorably discharged in 1966.
He worked for AC Rochester Products, a Division of General Motors in Rochester, New York as a Millwright for 30 years. Ray served as a Councilman from 1974-1978 for the Town of Shelby and was a Legislator from 1979 -1985 for Orleans County, New York. Additionally, he was a YMCA board member and 1st Program Chairman in Medina, NY before moving to North Chili, New York. He retired in 1994 with a move to Inverness, Florida and became a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Ray loved making birdhouses recently and enjoyed giving them away. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage. He loved watching old cowboy movies and talking with people, especially Marine Vets. Once a Marine always a Marine.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Roger Cook who was killed in Viet Nam in January 15, 1967. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce (Hill) Cook of Inverness, Florida; son, David of North Chili, New York; Daughter, Lori Rice of Florida; Grandchildren: Nathan and Nicole Rosenthal of New Jersey; Sister, Sue King; Brother, Robert (Marcia) Cook of Medina, New York.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 27th, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at VFW Post #1483, 216 E. Center Street, Medina, NY 14103. Ray will be laid to rest at Millville Cemetery, Medina, NY. Cremation care by Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
