Where Planning Is A Gift That Lives On
Maureen L Baker

Maureen L Baker

Maureen Lee Baker, 83, of Dunnellon, FL, entered her eternal rest on August 1, 2021 after valiantly battling a lengthy illness. Her wishes were honored by spending her final days at home with family by her side. Maureen was born on February 13, 1938, in Chester, WV and married Jerry A. Baker on February 13, 1989.
Maureen’s compassionate heart touched countless people everywhere. Her most loved occupation was being a nurse. She cared for patients of all ages and stages of life but found herself lovingly caring for hospice patients and families for the last 10 years of her nursing career. She reluctantly retired only because of her own personal health crisis. Maureen was known for going over and above in everything she did, which included past occupations in the forestry service, county social services, bus transportation, and the long-haul trucking industry. Throughout the years, Maureen enjoyed farming, riding horses, reading, and listening to country, bluegrass, and gospel music.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry (Bake) A. Baker; her son, Robert (Susan) Lawrence, Jr. of Toronto, OH; her daughter, Barbara (Ed) Leanza of Spring Hill, FL; two sisters, Marilyn (Jeff) Nash of Anna Maria, FL and Leah Culp of Pinellas Park, FL, along with her five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two nieces.
She was proceeded in death by her father, Lawrence R. McKenzie, mother, Rhea Mae McKenzie, and her infant sister Beverly McKenzie.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Marion County who so lovingly cared for her in her final days and was a great support to the family. Family and friends will be gathering at a later date to celebrate Maureen’s life.
