Baxendale, Douglas James, Sr, age 82, departed from the living on Sunday, July 18, 2021 after a short battle with COVID-19. Doug was born in Fall River, Mass to the late Althea and Norman Baxendale, on December 31, 1938.
Doug was married to his late wife, Jean, on August 24, 1963. They made their home originally in Fall River
and raised their 4 children in Swansea. Doug was a 1958 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School where he was a 3 sport standout athlete. Doug went on to play baseball at Rollins College, where he played in the 1959 NAIA College World Series and graduated in 1962. Doug was elected into both the Durfee HS and
Rollins College Hall of Fame.
After college graduation, Doug was a High School teacher and coach for 11 years before entering the Insurance industry. Doug was a very successful insurance executive with MEIE/AIM Mutual for over 20 years; where he retired in 2010. After retiring, Doug enjoyed his time living in Florida, golfing every day and spending time with his special friend, Lin Bryant.
Doug was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean. He is survived by his four children, son, Douglas Jr and his wife, Paula; daughter, Robin and her husband, Tim; son, Greg and his wife, Shea and daughter, Donna; his 8 grandchildren, Albert, Zachary, Justice, Austin, DJ, Blake, Bailey, Brooks, Stephen and Annika. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert and his wife, Karen and his nieces and nephew, Christie,
Courtney, Riley and Ryan.
Private funeral services for Douglas James Baxendale, Sr, will be held in both Florida and Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West,
6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. Burial will be beside his wife, Jean, in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River, MA.
