Joseph Valentine Walicki, age 95, Melbourne, Florida; formerly of Inverness, Florida; passed away May 16, 2021 at Autumn House in Melbourne. Joe was born in Astoria, NY on March 16, 1926 to the late Valentine and Katherine (Smotry) Walicki. He served our country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War 2 to 1946. He married his wife Marilyn on Oct 16, 1948 and raised his family in Plainview, NY while working over four decades for the Bell Telephone System. He and Marilyn retired to Inverness, Florida in 1985 and joined Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Joe had many hobbies, building with wood, electrical workbench, adventures of camping from Mexico to Nova Scotia Canada and throughout the US. He enjoyed cooking (known for his famous pumpkin pie).
Left to cherish his memory are his 5 children: John Walicki and his wife Peggy, Bethel, PA; Kathleen Melgar and her husband Charles, Boca Raton, FL; Marianne Lortz and her husband, George, Melbourne, FL; Jeanne Owen and her husband Richard, Commack, NY; and Laura Denn and her husband, James, Inverness, FL. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Walicki, on May 29, 2012, as well as his brother, Edward Walicki, and two sisters, Blanche Walicki and Julia Champion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 10:30 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness with Fr. Claudius Mganga, Celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Friends may call at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home Sunday evening, May 23, from 4:00-6:00 PM, where a Vigil Service will be offered at 5:30 PM.
