Lawrence H. Benz, 86, of Floral City, FL, formerly from Springville, NY.
July 10, 1934 – April 10, 2021.
Lawrence began working at a young age at the Benz family gravel pit. He served in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police during the Korean War. He was a member of the Local 17 International Union of Operating Engineers where he worked for many years and retired. He made his home in Citrus County Florida in 2000. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was known for his good sense of humor and his contagious smile. He loved to reminisce about the changes in the towns, landscapes and roadways that he had worked on throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his parents John L. and Margaret (Schweickert) Benz: His brothers James (Gloria), Donald (Rita), and John Jr. and sister Beatrice Noeson (Frank). Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Carol Benz (nee Cowan); his children, Lori LaCosse (Steve) of West Valley, NY, Larry D. Benz (Teresa) of Harrisburg, NC, Karl Benz (Cheri) of Kannapolis, NC, and Michelle Martens (Steven) of Springville, NY; his sister, Margaret (Benz) Dolecki (Richard Corsette) of Bradenton, FL; his brother, Daniel Benz (Linda) of St. Augustine, FL; also survived by thirteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Arrangements for Lawrence are private at this time. Flowers are gratefully declined. Care is under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness, FL.
