Verlee Stryker, Inverness, FL, died Feb 27, 2021. She was born in Arkansas January 5, 1927 to Royce and Mary Greene. In 1943 Lee met Robert Stryker on a blind date in Memphis. They corresponded as Bob soon shipped overseas with the Navy. Bob proposed by sending her a ring while serving in the Pacific. They married on January 17, 1946. Lee was a mother, homemaker, seamstress, real estate agent and became a dedicated volunteer at CUBS until the day she died. Lee was known for her strong independent nature and exceptional health and energy. She was loved by her family and is dearly missed.
Survivors include son Lawrence “Larry” Stryker (Carol), La Crescent, MN; daughters Carolyn J. Gendron (Gary) of Hernando, Florida and Susan Lucas (Bill), of Huntington, W.V.; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and one due soon. She is also survived by her loving friend Marvin K. Jordan. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and her parents. She was surrounded by loved ones during her final days.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2021, 11:00 AM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Dr. Byron Brown, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Citrus United Basket, P.O.Box 2094, Inverness, FL 34451. Burial will be at a later date beside her husband, Robert, at Florida National Cemetery.
