Where Planning Is A Gift That Lives On

Stephen L Sellars

Stephen Lee Sellars of Hernando, FL passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital on January 20, 2021, he was 72. Stephen was born to the late Marvin and Annie (Ellis) Sellars in Atlanta, Ga. Steve graduated from Citrus High School in May of 1967, and at the encouragement of his father, joined the military the very next day. Steve proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his military career, he returned to Citrus County and began work with Larry Grant Plumbing. Before leaving Grant Plumbing and taking on his position with SECO, Larry took Steve on a long drive and shared the Gospel with him. This was a very special moment for Steve, and he recalled it over the years fondly with his wife Frances. Steve and Frances were married May 14, 1988. Francie loved him from the moment they met, and the feeling was mutual. Their bond of marriage, 32 years, is certainly a testament to their love for each other and their faith in God. After Grant Plumbing, Steve began his career with SECO where coworkers quickly became friends and they remained close even after his 39 years of employment.

Retirement brought a new season in life for Steve. It made more time for things he really enjoyed. He liked the solitude of the outdoors and became a hunting, boating and biking enthusiast. Steve was well read and enjoyed reading the styles of Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey western books. Through these books, based on historical events in early America, he established a knowledge base of geography and history. He also loved music; Big Band Era, 40’s, 50’s and Old Time Gospel. Steve loved God, he was a faithful Christian man who lived his life to be pleasing to the Lord and a blessing to others. He was kind, loving, and gentle to his wife and friends. As the years passed, he became less self servicing and more serving toward others around him through Christ Jesus. Steve attended worship services with Frances at United Church, in Wildwood Florida.

Steve was one of four siblings and is preceded in death by his sister Susan A. Williams who died earlier just this month on January 13, 2021. Their surviving siblings are Marvin “Tim” Sellars and his wife Julie of Hernando, and Rosalee Mae Craig of Rhome, TX, and Ron L. Williams (brother in law) along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Stephen will be laid to rest with full military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at a later date.
A Celebration of Life has been planned at the Solid Rock Church of God in Inverness, FL on Saturday February 6, 2021 at 11:00am and will be conducted by Pastor Timothy Miller. Steve may have been a man of few words, but, there is no question that he loved his wife Francie, his family, and his friends. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a husband, a veteran and a lineman. But most of all, he would want people to know, he was a born again child of God. Steve would encourage you today to do the same. As the lyrics of the song goes, “Won’t you firmly promise me that you will meet me by the river and I’ll make you this promise too”. (song “I Firmly Promise You” written by Albert Brumley and performed by Wendy Bagwell and the Sunliters). In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Stephen’s memory to the local hospice organization of your choice. Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
