Mildred E Stone

Mildred “Mickey” Stone, 96, of Inverness went home to be with her Lord on January 5, 2021, under the loving care of her family. She was born August 10, 1924 in Avon, PA, daughter of the late John and Lizzie (Snyder) Zweir. She graduated from Lebanon High School, took up nursing, and in 1946 married Levi Stone and began a new life in Bushnell, FL, where his sister lived. During that time Mickey was a nurse in Leesburg, before moving to Inverness in 1949.

Levi and Mickey loved to fish in the Gulf and then enjoy fried fish and hush puppies. She also worked in the school lunchroom and put her cooking skills to work baking cakes. She baked cakes for family, friends and whom
ever needed a special cake. She baked cakes for many years for the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home to give away at Christmas. Mickey taught Sunday school and was the pianist for many years at the Assembly of God Church in Inverness. In January 1968, when the new nursing home , Inverness Health Care (now named Avante), opened, she worked the 11 – 7 shift for the next 18 years. She and Levi began their summer travels in 1986 and ended up in Sequim, Washington. They enjoyed the sunsets, the snow capped mountains and their many friends including the Judge from Yakama County. On September 11, 2001, they returned home and due to Levi’s sickness, they never returned. Mickey was the oldest member of Victory Baptist Church in Inverness, where she was very active and will be sadly missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Levi, of 61 years; two sisters: Catherine Kirkessner and Helen Opp; her niece Patricia Stann and her granddaughter, Debbie Jermmott. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Rebecca “Becky” Worrell of Inverness, Jane Gromling and her husband Donald, of Inverness, and her son L. Frank Stone and his wife Dinah of Floral City. She leaves her granddaughters: Ashley Worrell and Britney Stimson and her husband TJ; her grandsons: Edward and Jim Gromling and Bobby Demaris and his wife Ashley; seven great grandchildren, including, Davis Alan.

Mickey will be laid to rest with Levi, at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Graveside services are private.
