Robert G. McCollam of Inverness, FL passed away with his loving family by his side at Citrus Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2020 at the age of 73. Robert was born in Queens, NY on April 29, 1947 to the late James and Jeanette (Helm) McCollam. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. On March 30, 1974 he married Claudia (Sawicki) with whom he shared 46 years of loving marriage. Robert and Claudia made Citrus County their home in 1975 after relocating from Whitestone, NY. He and his family owned and operated KC Garage Doors and Openers in Inverness for over 35 years. Robert owned his own airplane that he kept at the Inverness airport. He absolutely loved flying. When he wasn’t flying his plane, he enjoyed doing yard work and tinkering in his garage. Robert also enjoyed traveling with his wife for a number of years. Some of their destinations included Ireland, Spain, Portugal, many of the Caribbean islands, New England and Alaska.
In addition to his loving wife Claudia, those left to mourn Robert’s passing include his daughter, Kristy Kapiton and her husband George of Inverness, FL; his son, Robert DeRosa of Denver, CO; sister, Nancy Droge of Whitestone, NY; and grandchildren: Logan, Bobby and Reilly. Cremation care by the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
