Donald L. Watkins of Hernando, FL and Newaygo, MI passed away while under the loving care of his family and Vitas Hospice in Lecanto, FL on June 28, 2020 at the age of 84. Donald was born on June 3, 1936 in Syracuse, NY to the late Frank and Mae (Lanning) Watkins. On May 1, 1999 he married his wife Patricia with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. He and Patricia were “Snowbirds”, spending 6 months of the year in Michigan and 6 months in Florida. Donald served as a member of the National Guard for many years but his main profession was Elevator Mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking, working outside, mowing his lawn and eating a good meal. Donald was a devout Christian and attended the Hernando Church of the Nazarene in Hernando, FL and the Church of the Nazarene in Sparta, MI.
In addition to his wife Patricia, those left to mourn Donald’s passing include his children: Donald Watkins, JR (Lori), Dayle DeAngelo (Mike), David Watkins, Dawn Unger (Dave), Daniel Watkins, Deanna Giachetti; stepchildren: John Latreille (Brenda), Robin Giese (Mario); grandchildren: Kyle, Taylor, Matthew, Brian, David Jr., Tabitha, Cassandra, Samantha, Cassidy, Kiara, Brett, Alexis, Nicholas; step-grandchildren: Chandler, Kelsey, Jacob, Derek. Donald was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Watkins, grandson, Patrick Unger, and stepson, Robert Latrielle.
Graveside services will take place at a later date at Valley Cemetery in Syracuse, NY and will be under the direction of the Butler-Badman Funeral Home. Florida arrangements under the care of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
