George A. Martinez, age 77, of Floral City, FL passed away at home on June 25th, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 1st, 1942 to Antonio and Magnalena (Aguirre) Martinez in Christine, Texas. George worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Citrus County Road Department, primarily working the “road grater”. George and his wife, Angelita, were married in 1962. Together, they moved to Florida in 1971 from Texas, and in 1972, made Citrus County their home where George lived the remainder of his life. He enjoyed attending First Baptist Church of Floral City, FL and later, started attending Wahoo Baptist Church of Bushnell, FL.
George loved life and lived it to the fullest. He will be remembered most for his loving, big heart – George would give you the shirt off of his back, and was always looking for a reason and a way to help someone. He loved all people, no matter their background or color of their skin. George was an avid outdoorsman, frequently teaching his children wilderness survival skills. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and doing anything outside, especially tending to his garden. He loved flowers, but the Yellow Rose of Texas was his favorite. He taught his children how to play Softball and how to whistle – George loved to teach and pass on his knowledge to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. George was a Boy Scout Leader for many years, and also dabbled in Carpentry. He loved cookouts with his big family, dancing, and is lovingly described by his family as a “social butterfly”.
George was preceded in death by his parents and many of his brothers and sisters. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Angelita; his son, George Anthony Martinez of Ocala, FL; his three daughters, Martha Bass (William) of Floral City, FL, Mary Ann Lozoya (Arturo) of Floral City, FL, and Melissa Martinez of Floral City, FL; his two brothers, Ralph Martinez of Brownfield, TX and Rudy Martinez of San Saba, TX; his sister, Nora Garcia of Richland Springs, TX; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. George was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted by the family and will take place on Friday, July 10th, 2020 from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Wahoo Baptist Church of Bushnell, FL, with Pastor Santiago Huron conducting the services.
