Donald Wyatt “Buddy” McLean, passed away on January 24th, 2020, at Vitas Hospice in Lecanto, FL at the age of 77. He was born to the late Walter Donald and Ann Elizabeth McLean in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 24th, 1942. Though retired for many years, he worked as a Rural Mail Carrier for the U.S.P.S. and after active duty in the U.S. Navy he continued serving his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He and his wife of 54 years, Alma, still considered Oakdale, PA home but enjoyed their later years in Hernando, FL.
Don was a member of The American Legion, Elks, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, VFW, and served for over 50 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Oakdale Fire Department. He also continued to support many veteran organizations, including creating his own “Reunion Logistics” for organizing military veteran reunions across the country. The visits to Pearl Harbor were always the favorite.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing and coaching softball where he created many memories with his family and friends.
Donald is preceded in death by one brother, Byron McLean. He is survived by his loving wife, Alma; his son, Ronald (Tami Jo) McLean of Sachse, TX; his four daughters, Kelly Lynn McLean of Fort Worth, TX, Beth Ann Gardner of Oakdale, PA, Heather Renee McLean of Fort Worth, TX, and Erin Colleen McLean of Oakdale, PA; his brother, Kim “Otis”; four grandchildren, Jaclyn, Alex, Wyatt, and Michaela; and five great-grandchildren, Ahryah, Cash and Easton, Emery Jo, and Boone. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Pennsylvania, arranged by his family, at a later date. Cremation care by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
