Eugenia Aponte, 97, with a life well lived and loved, was called home by the Lord in a peaceful manner on Thursday, January 23, 2020, with family by her side.
Eugenia was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Pedro Aponte and Felicita Almodovar on October 6, 1922. She migrated to the States 14 years later where she met and married Cesar Gonzalez. She worked as a seamstress for 15 years and later transitioned into a full-time homemaker.
She was deeply religious and was faithfully involved in Our Lady of Victory Church in Bronx, New York. Eugenia’s talents were many as she was an extremely accomplished seamstress and crocheted garments worn by family, friends and strangers alike.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to cook, play BINGO with family and friends, and her morning coffee couldn’t be forgotten. Her favorite all time fictional character was “Alf.” She liked to tell stories from her past, stay on top of current events by watching the news and adored pets.
Eugenia entertained family, friends and everyone around her was always smiling. This gentle, loving, caring and deeply religious woman has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by all who knew and cared for her. Eugenia will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, insightful eyes, caring heart, sharp wit, great humor, loving embrace and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven watching over us.
She is survived by her daughter, Minerva Gonzalez; her son, Ruben Gonzalez and his wife, Margarita Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Jerome Hill, Gretchen Hill, Angela Hill, Jennifer Irizarry, and Ruben Gonzalez Jr.; her great-grandchildren, London, Darrein, Carlie, DeVaughn, DaQuan, Victor, Nico, Jayla, Jeremiah (Jaymier), Damian, Jazlyn, Andres, and Adrian.
Eugenia Aponte was predeceased by her father, Pedro Aponte, mother Felicita Almodovar, her youngest daughter, Irma Hill, son-in-law, Victor Hill, and grandson, Vincent Hill.
