James Alfred Handy, Jr. of Homosassa, FL, passed away at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL on December 21, 2019 at the age of 58. Jim was born in Hackensack, NJ on July 11, 1961 to the late Jean Elizabeth (Darden) and James Alfred, Sr. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, Bravo Company 1st Military Intelligence Battalion (Ariel Exploration) Wiesbaden Germany and was a Desert Storm and Desert Shield Veteran in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War. Following his military service, Jim began a long career as an Information Technology Specialist, working for many companies through the years. Jim relocated to Citrus County with his family in 2014 from Colchester, VT.
Jim loved Star Trek and was patiently waiting to be beamed up. He was an avid gamer and roll player, which included War Thunder, Star Trek Online and World of Warcraft. Jim also enjoyed fishing, collecting and creating witty T-shirts and bowling; he participated in the Essex Senior League on team Chuck Norris Kids, while living in Vermont. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Jim will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor and his large witty T-shirt collection by all of his loving family and friends. Along with his late father and mother, he was preceded in death by his step-son, Jason McCluskey in 2010 and his beloved Chihuahua, Pablo. He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Maureen Handy; his son, Nickolas Handy of Homosassa, FL; his step-son, Jeremy Jarvis of Key West, FL; his brother, Derek (Cassandra) Handy of Los Angeles, CA; his cousin who was like a sister to him, Anita Leverett Jones of Hillcrest, NY; his two dogs, Odin (a Chihuahua) and Ginger (a Yorkie) and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Jim was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held on January, 24th, 2020 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Peggy Hoyle officiating. His family will be receiving his many friends and family at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. A service with full military honors will be rendered at a later date. In Lieu Of flowers contributions to the family would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
