Janice K. Mass, “Mama Jan”, of Floral City, FL passed away at Vitas Hospice Healthcare in Lecanto on November 6, 2019 at the age of 75. Jan was born on September 24, 1944 in Carmi, IL to the late Jess and Ruth (Christy) Risley and was Baptist by faith. She was employed as a hospital nurse for over 40 years. Jan was married to her husband Ronald for 35 years until his passing in 2010. She made Citrus County, FL her home in 1994 after relocating from Kissimmee, FL and was a member of the Floral City VFW Post #7122. In her spare time, Jan enjoyed playing bingo. She also loved having family and friends over to her home so she could cook and entertain.
Those left to mourn Jan’s passing include her daughter, Tiffaney Benson and her husband David of Kathleen, GA; sons: Joseph Brown of Floral City, FL, Thomas Brown of St. Cloud, FL; stepdaughter, Lisa Mass of Waterville, ME; brothers: Jerry and John Risley; and her loving grandchildren. Jan was preceded in death by her sisters: Sandra Mass in 2013 and Tammy Sutphin in 2004.
“Mama Jan’s” family are organizing a cookout at her home that will take place sometime in the spring so her friends and family can gather together to remember her, celebrate her life and legacy, and share their favorite stories of her with one another. “Mama Jan” would ask that you not be sad and mourn her passing. But, to think back fondly on the memories you’ve made together. She was so much, to so many. An amazing mother, loving wife, daughter, sister, and cherished grandmother. A heartfelt, and loyal friend. She gave with her whole heart, never asking or expecting anything in return. She never turned away a soul in need, always welcoming, caring and encouraging us to be the best person we could be. Lifting us up when we were down. Always showing us the positive side of life and celebrating our accomplishments right alongside. When you think back, think fondly of me, know I am at peace and will always be with you, watching over you.
