Robert Charles “Chuck” Goddard, 71 of Inverness, FL passed away Friday, November 1, 2019 at Vitas Hospice in Lecanto. Chuck was born in East Liverpool, OH on May 26, 1948, to the late Charles W. and Lenora (Cottrill) Goddard. He proudly served our country 4 years in the U S Navy, 1966-1970, as an avionics technician. For 1 ½ years he served on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and the USS Coral Sea (CV-43) off the coast of Vietnam, Tonkin Bay. He served an additional 27 years with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as an avionics technician, retiring as a Master Sergeant Aircraft (E-7) Avionics. He was deployed supporting the Persian Gulf War. Chuck came to Citrus County in 2012 from Charleston, SC.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47-1/2 years, Katherine (Carnegie) Goddard; his son, Joshua C. Goddard and wife, Tomoko, of Charleston, SC; his daughter, Jaime C. Spivey and husband Jason of Charleston, SC; 1 brother: Colin D. (Deborah) Goddard of East Liverpool, OH; 3 sisters: Cathleen M. (Sam) Shultz of Searcy, AR: Bonnie C. (William) Persohn of Wellsville, OH: Lois A. (Jay) Arcuri of North Ridgeville, OH; two grandchildren: Mia A. Goddard and Finn S. Goddard, both of Charleston, SC; and brother-in-law James E. “Jed” Carnegie.
Chuck was passionate and loved extensively renovating his four (4) homes through the years. Upon discharge from the US Navy he was a rough carpenter for Ryan Homes and Bryan Homes, Pittsburgh, PA. He was energetic, always willing to lend a hand. He helped friends build homes and add-on additions, and he led the building of an educational wing at his family’s church.
Chuck was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved life to the fullest. He was always positive and happy, and possessed a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He loved people and he loved his many rescued dogs and cats during his lifetime.
Funeral services for Chuck will be conducted on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 AM, from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Kell, pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Inverness, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial with full military honors provided by the Citrus County Honor Guard on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:30 AM , at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The procession to the cemetery will leave the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home at 10:45 AM.
