Jonas Masaitis

Jonas Masaitis of Lecanto, FL passed away while under the care of Vitas Hospice Healthcare on July 23, 2019 at the age of 83. Jonas was born in Boblaukis, Lithuania to the late Jonas and Antania (Priespylaite) Masaitis on January 21, 1936. He shared over 56 years of loving marriage with his wife Dagmar (Suchanek) Masaitis. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. After his military service, he started a new career at AT&T where he was employed for 40 years as an Engineer Associate. In 1998 Jonas and Dagmar relocated from Addison, Illinois to Lecanto, Florida. This relocation started their retirement. Jonas loved sailing and spending time on the water. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He passed time by fixing or building things at home. For many years he made handcrafted wine as a hobby. When Jonas had down time you could usually find him napping in his favorite reclining chair, reading, listening to music, or playing his harmonica. Every year his children and grandchildren had Happy Birthday played to them by Jonas on his harmonica to help them celebrate their special day. In addition to his loving wife Dagmar, those left to mourn Jonas’ passing include his daughter, Zita Hopgood and her husband Mark of Nolensville, TN. Also left to mourn are his five grandchildren: Marissa Hopgood and Zachary Hopgood (Nolensville, TN), Marina Hopgood (Roselle,IL) as well as Rebecca and Amanda Masaitis(Huntley,IL). Jonas was preceded in death by his son Jonas in 2012; and his sisters: Petre Balutis and Eugenia Uogintas, both of Edmonton, AB, Canada. Cremation care provided by the Chas E.
