George Raymond Elmore, age 90, Phoenix, AZ and former resident of Homosassa, FL passed away in Phoenix on June 17, 2019 under the care of Hospice of The Valley. Mr. Elmore was born in Detroit, MI on March 6, 1929 to the late George M. and Florence (Kunkel) Elmore and came to Florida in 1993 from Taylor, MI. He was a retired locomotive engineer, having worked 42 years with the Detroit, Toledo, and Ironton and the Grand Trunk Railroads. He served our country in the U.S. Army and was of the Catholic Faith.
Left to cherish his memory are four children: Paul (Denise) Elmore, Sugarland, TX; Philip (Sabrina) Elmore, Taylor, MI; Teresa (James) Ortner, Chandler, AZ; Cynthia (Barry) Steele, Riverview, MI; two brothers: William Dimock of North Carolina and Richard Dimock of Michigan; two sisters: Shirley Ghena and Barbara Smillie, both of Michigan; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Scott, Sarah, Jimmy, Jake, Noelle and Jaycie; three great grandchildren: Adrian, Ashton and Reese. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Elmore on July 6, 2015; his son, Stephen Elmore; two brothers, David and Jack Dimock; and his sisters, Helen Rouleau and Dorothy Doka.
There is a Celebration of Life Scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 12:30 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Fr. Tim Cummings of Our Lady of Fatima Parish officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of service at the funeral home.
