William R. Hancock, age 85, of Inverness, FL passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Vitas Healthcare in Lecanto, FL. William was born on July 2, 1933 in Trenton, MO to the late Wilbur R. and Emily (Reams) Hancock.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, William became a Truck Driver and was a dedicated Teamsters Union Steward who fought hard for his fellow workers.
In June of 1992 he married Diana (Adleblute) with whom he shared 27 years of marriage. He and Diana made Citrus County, FL their home 24 years ago after relocating from Cocoa, FL and attended worship services at Calvary Baptist Church in Crystal River, FL.
In his spare time, William enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. He loved horses and also enjoyed gambling and trips to the track. William was a loving, kind man who enjoyed the company of others and had a special place in his heart for children. His loss and absence will be felt by many.
In addition to his loving wife Diana, those left to mourn William’s passing include his sons: Gerry (Kim) Miller, William “Brett Hancock, Tony Hancock; daughters: Shannon (Dwayne) Hall, Tamara Hancock, Dawnmarie (William) Evans, Amber Dee Gambel; stepson, Troy (Dawn) Krout; stepdaughters: Tracy (Samuel) Glenn, Donna (Tim) Hunt, Debbie (Mike) Pagze; brother, Lee Hancock; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. William was preceded in death by stepson, Larry Gross in 2003.
William will be laid to rest at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL at a later date. Cremation care provided by the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
