Charles S Hirst

Charles S. Hirst, age 80, of Inverness, FL passed away at Citrus Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 13, 2018. Charles was born on December 21, 1937 in Middletown, N.Y. to the late Chester and Helen B.(Lawyer) Hirst. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves and retired after 28 years with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. On March 26, 1978 he married Joanne (Goldstein) with whom he shared 40 years of loving marriage. Charles and Joanne made Citrus County, FL their home in 2010 after relocating from Schoharie, N.Y. Prior to his retirement, and while still residing in Schoharie, he had worked as a Mechanic, Body Repairman and D.C. Electrician. He had also been a Judge, a City Councilman and Superintendent of Highways. Charles also helped manage the kitchen at Frosty Acres Campgrounds, and was a co-owner of 3 Charlie’s BBQ. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, rebuilding and working on cars, and selling parts for cars. Charlie was a member of the Esperance, N.Y. Elks Lodge #2507.

In addition to his loving wife Joanne, those left to mourn Charles’ passing include his son, Brian Jarrod Hirst and his wife Heather; grandchildren: Mykal Hirst and his wife Alyssia, Sabine Hirst and Caitty Hirst. He also leaves behind his beloved Pompoo, Ikey.

A Celebration of Life Service for Charles is scheduled for Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Esperance Elks Lodge #2507 in Esperance, N.Y. Following the memorial, A Funeral Service of Remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 3:30 PM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, FL where Inverness Elks Lodge #2522 will offer the Elks rest service. Friends are invited to joins Charles’ family in visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service. Charles will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 10:00 AM where full military honors will be rendered by the Army Reserve Honor Guard and American Legion Post #155. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
