Ruth P. Scott

Ruth Pett Scott, age 94, of Inverness, FL passed away at Pleasant Grove Manor Assisted Living Facility on Friday, November 30, 2018. Ruth was born in Scranton, PA to the late Frederick and Mabel (Schneider) Haffner on October 7, 1924.

She was married to John D. Scott until his passing in 1969. Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse throughout her lifetime and earned her master’s degree in nursing from Eckerd College when she was in her 60’s. She worked for Hospice of Citrus County for a number of years and later became one of their volunteers.

Ruth made Inverness her home in 1985 after relocating from Pennsylvania and was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. For several years, Ruth would visit Arbor Trail Nursing and Rehab to minister to those who could not attend church services. When she had any time to spare for herself, she greatly enjoyed traveling. Ruth had the privilege of once meeting Helen Keller. “What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply, become a part of us”. Helen Keller.

Those left to mourn Ruth’s passing include her daughter, Susan Scott of Inverness, FL; sons: John D. Scott, Jr. of Bronson, FL, David Charles Allander and his wife Ann of Maine; sister, Mabel England of New Jersey; grandchildren: John W. Scott, Heather Allander, David Allander, Jr., great grandchild, Ryan and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband, Ruth was preceded in death by brother, Fred Haffner and sister, Dorothy Cady.
