Elijah “Clayton” Cook, age 87, of Inverness, FL passed away August 21, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast and his loving family. Clayton was born October 24, 1930 in Maben, WV to the late William and Rosa (Sarver) Cook. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of the Korean War.

On September 4, 1959 Clayton married Georgia Ruth (Davis) with whom he shared 58 years of loving marriage. He owned and operated E. C. Cook Painting and Decorating in St. Petersburg, FL. He relocated his business to Inverness when he and Georgia moved to Citrus County in 1974. Clayton could build anything and remodeled every home his family ever lived in. He and Georgia loved to travel and took many R.V. trips and cruises throughout the years. Clayton especially enjoyed their trips to Alaska and Baja. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and playing cards. Clayton was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Tampa Egypt Temple Shriners.

In addition to his loving wife Georgia, those left to mourn Clayton’s passing are his sons: Bruce Cook and his wife Joanne of Brooksville, FL, Mitchell Cook of Hernando, FL, Michael Cook and his wife Sherry of Hernando, FL; sister, Hylanda Shrewsbury and her husband Shirley of Clearwater, FL; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Clayton was preceded in death by brothers: William, Raymond and Jack Cook; and his sisters: Emma Leatha and Betty Ray.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, August 27, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, Clayton’s family requests memorial donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
