Mitchel J. Hertig

Mitchel John Hertig, age 79, of Inverness, FL passed away June 12, 2018 at Sturgill Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, FL. He was born in Lutaniska, Poland on January 1, 1939 to the late John and Victoria (Kop) Hertig.

Mitchel was a U.S. Army veteran and a Claims Superintendent for State Farm Insurance Company. He arrived in this area 25 years ago after relocating from Hamilton, IL where he was past Commander of VFW Post #5256. Mitchel was also past Fire Chief, a City Councilman, and member of the Kiwanis Club, all of Hamilton, IL.

Locally, Mitchel was a member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club and a member of the “Nooners”. He also greatly enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and going to casinos.

He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Linda J. Hertig. Other survivors include his sons: Joseph Hertig and his wife Christine, Mitchel J. Hertig, Jr; daughters: Amanda Cullinan and her husband Justin, Debbie Dickerson and her husband Brian, Jennifer Palmer and her husband Mike, Angee Hainline, and Candace Leary and her husband Tom; brother Joseph Hertig and his wife Merilee; and 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Pamela Thompson.

Mitchel’s urn will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Full Military Honor Guard services will be rendered by Inverness VFW Post #4337 at the cemetery. An additional Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
